Authentic Ancient Roman Empire Clay Pottery Artifact Oil Lamp Circa 100-500 AD

  

For sale is this authentic clay pottery oil lamp artifact from the Ancient Roman Empire. This small clay oil lamp is what lighting would have once looked like for the ancient world. Clay pottery like this would have been very common in the Ancient Roman Empire. Without a fine glaze, or being made of glass/metal, pieces like this were almost seen as disposable (or at least cheap enough that it wasn't a huge deal if one were lost or broken). This piece might have been disposed of once it sustained some kind of damage or wear, as would have been common.

The clay itself seems to be in good condition, and doesn't feel too brittle from years of being buried. This being said, there is some other damage.

There is a crack that runs around it (see photos). There was once a design in the top that has since worn somewhat away, with some recognizable places. There is some other overall damage to it also, so please study the photos carefully so that you have a good idea of what to expect.

There may be chips, cracks, or other blemishes to it. I currently have this piece on display in my personal collection! This would be a great addition to any collection!
