Ancient Roman Silver Coin Denarius of Domitian. D O M I T I A N.

Struck under Titus (as Emperor), 80 - Sept. Obverse: CAESAR DIVI F DOMITIANVS COS VII Laureate head of Domitian to right. Reverse: PRINCEPTS IVVENTVTIS Garlanded and flaming altar. Princeps Iuventutis' ("the first amongst the young"), which in the early empire was frequently bestowed on eligible successors to the emperor, especially from his family (here, bestowed by Titus). Domitian was the son of Vespasian and the younger brother of Titus, his two predecessors on the throne and since Titus had no heir he thus secured the succession to his brother Domitian.
